Running cost estimator

What might it cost to keep cool?

Choose a model and enter your expected use. The tariff starts at the current Ofgem average, but you can replace it with the unit rate shown on your electricity bill.

Per hour£0.35
Per day£1.41
Per week£9.87
Average month£42.77
How this estimate works

It uses an indicative active-cooling input of 1.35 kW for the Nomad 12. This is derived from the supplier-declared cooling output and the minimum EER of 2.60 for a Class A single-duct air conditioner. Actual consumption can be lower as the compressor cycles, and will vary with room conditions, settings and ventilation.

The default 26.11p/kWh is Ofgem's average Direct Debit electricity rate for 1 July to 30 September 2026. Standing charges are excluded because they apply regardless of appliance use.

Portable FAQs

Useful answers before you register.

Does a portable air conditioner need venting?

Yes. A compressor-driven portable unit removes heat from the room through an exhaust hose. Position it near a suitable window and use the supplied window kit to minimise warm air returning.

Which size should I choose?

The 12,000 BTU unit is the practical starting point for many bedrooms, home offices and living rooms. Larger, warmer or more demanding spaces may benefit from the 14,000 BTU option. Glazing, insulation, ceiling height and heat-producing equipment all affect performance.

Can I use one in a bedroom?

Yes, although all compressor air conditioners make some noise. Cooling the room before sleep and using the timer or sleep function can be more comfortable than running at full power all night.
