What is available?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently provides £2,500 towards an eligible air-to-air heat pump in a residential property. These systems can provide efficient heating in winter and cooling in summer.
The installer applies on the property owner’s behalf and shows the grant as an upfront reduction in the quote or invoice.
The important limitation
A wall-mounted unit that cools a room is not automatically eligible. Grant eligibility depends on the property, the existing heating being replaced, the equipment, the design and commissioning, and the installer meeting the scheme’s certification requirements.
How the process normally works
- Discuss the property, present heating system and rooms that need heating and cooling.
- An eligible installer assesses whether an air-to-air heat pump is suitable and whether the project can meet the scheme rules.
- The installer provides a quotation showing the grant deduction where applicable.
- The installer submits the application; Ofgem contacts the property owner to confirm consent and identity.
- The system is installed and commissioned to the required standard.
